The day my college guidance counselor told me, “Kid, you don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell” — Became My Greatest Sales Opportunity
It was my second year of college when I met with my “career counselor” and told him I was interested in oceanography.
He looked at me and said, “Kid, you don’t have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting into that. You’re best suited to work at a factory.”
“Been there, done that,” I thought.
I had already worked in a factory. I knew what it was like. The guy working next to me had been there 20 years and was only making a few cents an hour more than I was. I remember looking at his paycheck and thinking, “I’m not doing this for the rest of my life.”
That was the moment I decided to go back to school. In my first year of college, I made up for what I missed by quitting high school to go to work. It was my second year when I started taking college courses that I went in for counseling and sage advice. That isn’t what I got.
Years later, I realized oceanography wasn’t what I wanted. It was just an idea. I chose oceanography because I was a SCUBA diver and loved the ocean. When I eventually earned millions of dollars, I could have gone back and pursued it if it had been my real dream. The fact that I never did told me it wasn’t.
The only thing I knew then was that I thought I wanted to help people. I changed majors a few times to finally end up in communications and English — I decided I wanted to write.
Limiting Beliefs and Opportunity
What that counselor actually planted was a limiting belief — the same kind that stops many people from seeing and seizing an opportunity. And those limiting beliefs are devastating for many people.
I didn’t become an oceanographer, but I did something many people said was impossible: I went from sanding cars at age 16 to closing multi-million dollar deals and building successful companies. The one thing that made the biggest difference was learning how to recognize and seize my greatest sales opportunity.
That experience taught me one of the most valuable lessons of my life:
Most of the limits we face aren’t real. They’re just someone else’s opinion that we mistakenly made our own.
This is exactly why I created the World-Class Sales Masterclass. In fact, I have one of the nine modules dedicated to overcoming limiting beliefs. I created videos and a workbook to help people overcome the beliefs that hold so many people back from enjoying the life they want and deserve.
Most sales programs only teach you how to close deals. The Masterclass does something much deeper. It helps you spot, create, and capitalize on your greatest sales opportunity — while also helping you to elevate your mindset, solidify ethics, sharpen discipline, and build resilience.
Greatest Sales Opportunity – A Better Way to Sell — and Live.
That’s the promise of this program. It’s not just about becoming a better salesperson — it’s about becoming someone who sees their greatest sales opportunity everywhere and has the confidence and skills to act on it.
If you’ve ever been told you’re not good enough, not smart enough, or that you don’t have a chance — this message is for you.
You don’t need permission from a counselor, a boss, or anyone else to create the life you want. You need the right tools, the right mindset, and the courage to keep moving forward.
